You will start a perfect day in Quito with while visiting the idyllic Quito Colonia City and a splendid cooking class (Independence Plaza, The Cathedral, San Francisco Square).
This city was colonized by the Spanish and recognized as a city in the mid-16th century. In 1978, together with Kraków in Poland, the entire city became the first UNESCO World Heritage Site. After breakfast at the hotel, visit the old town and meander down romantic narrow streets to see the colonial Churches of San Fransisco, La Compañia, where you will step into South America’s best example of Spanish Baroque architecture church, La Compañia De Jesus and other historical landmarks.
After breakfast, your English-speaking guide will pick you up for a walking city tour. The colonial center of Quito was already named world cultural heritage by UNESCO in 1978.
Visit the Plaza Grande and the beautiful churches La Compañía and La Basílica, and walk down the oldest street of Quito, La Ronda.
Get acquainted with Quito’s culinary delicacies during this classic style as you participate in a cooking class, where you will learn from the hand of their local chef how to prepare traditional Ecuadorian dishes, with fresh products picked from the local market.
By the end, you will learn how the bizarre mixture of two worldviews (Incan religion and European Catholicism) is beautifully reflected in Colonial City.
In the afternoon, experience the thrill of being in both hemispheres at the same time by stepping right in the middle of the world by visiting the Equatorial Monument, which highlights the exact location of the equator line according to the Franco-Spanish mission that determined its approximate location.
It’s also the location of the Ethnographic Museum that showcases the indigenous culture and ethnography of Ecuador. In the evening, you return to your hotel in Quito
