The Silver Origin Silversea’s first ship built only for one location, went into service in 2021. Silver Origin never leaves Ecuador, in contrast to the company’s ocean vessels, which are able to go wherever. Its permanent home is in the Galápagos Islands, and it sails year-round routes authorized by the National Park.
- Maximum passenger capacity: 100 (this is the legal limit for expedition ships).
- Suites: Every cabin is a suite with a private veranda.
- Crew and guides: Predominantly Ecuadorian who have received the necessary training and have a park license.
- Design: Zodiac platforms, briefing lounges, open decks for wildlife spotting.
Realization: The Galápagos Islands are inaccessible to big luxury cruise ships, which is why Silver Origin exists. Silversea’s answer to providing luxury in an area where access and size are tightly regulated was to build a special ship.
